The race for a Sun Belt conference championship became a lot clearer here Saturday evening.
Arkansas State will host Middle Tennessee for the conference championship next Saturday December 1st at Liberty Bank Stadium.
Middle Tennessee earned the right to play the Red Wolves for sole possession of first place after coming back from behind to defeat Troy 24-21 in Murfreesboro Tennessee.
Arkansas State 8-3 (6-1) in Sun Belt play will be vying for their second consecutive conference championship outright.
The winner between ASU and Middle Tennessee 8-3 (6-1) will be the undisputed conference championship.
Troy had the lead late in the fourth quarter, before Middle Tennessee intercepted the football and took it back 77 yards for a touchdown.
The season home finale for Arkansas State couldn't be any bigger.
The Red Wolves went 10-2 and undefeated in conference play last fall and will host one of the biggest games in ASU history in the month of December in Jonesboro.
"This game will mean a lot to both teams," Gus Malzahn said earlier this week. "This is what you want the season to come down to, having the chance to win the championship outright."
Arkansas State has turned in five straight games with attendance over 20,000 and ASU Athletic officials are hoping this stat continues.
ASU will host a Back in Black "Blackout" for the season finale, asking all Red Wolf fans to wear black for the contest.
Game time is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
Arkansas State is expected to receive a Bowl Invitation following the game against Middle. A win over the Blue Raiders could find ASU in its best Bowl game in Sun Belt history.
