Two-star Trinity Valley Community College defensive tackle Raphael Cox signed his letter-of-intent with Western Kentucky on Jan. 13, and will arrive in Bowling Green to begin classes in the upcoming spring semester.

The junior college prospect committed after taking a visit to WKU over the Jan. 11 weekend.

"I just really liked the environment and the coaching staff," Cox said. "I'm really excited to play for Coach (Bobby) Petrino.

"I thought Western Kentucky was the best place for me to further my education and reach the goals I've set for myself."

The 6-foot-3, 270 pound defensive tackle said his family members were excited about his decision.

"After I got off the plane from my visit, my Mom was driving the car with the window down yelling 'He's a Hilltopper'." Cox said. "They're all really happy for me."

Several other schools were showing interest in the Trinity Valley C.C standout before he picked WKU, including New Mexico, Old Dominion, UNLV, Wyoming, and UTEP, among others.

"I'm excited to get started," Cox said. "I'm hoping to bring some charisma, and a winning attitude to the program, try to help us win some football games."
